WESTERN REGION COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM
The Community Grants Program provides financial program support to area nonprofit organizations that address unmet housing needs in Mecklenburg, Iredell and Haywood counties.
Launched in 2009, the program awards funds annually to area nonprofits. Applications are rated according to community impact, project feasibility, fiscal strength and Realtor® support. Funding totals may vary depending on availability of funds.

2023 recipients – HAYWOOD
Haywood Community College Foundation
Received $3,000 to support the Lavender Fund Program, which provides emergency funds for food, transportation, rental assistance, and utilities to economically disadvantaged students in crisis who are attending Haywood Community College. These students are at risk for dropping out due to poverty or homelessness.

Mountain Projects / Smokey Mountain Housing Partnership
Received the following funding:
- $3,000 to purchase tools to be used by Self-Help participants and others as they work to build their own homes, making them homeowners for the first time.
- And $1,500 to be used for the production of classroom materials for in-person Homebuyer Education classes.

Haywood Pathways Center
Received $3,000 to provide rental assistance for four families at an average cost of $750 per family; this funding will assist the families in avoiding homelessness.

Pigeon Community Multicultural Development Center
Received $1,500 to provide funding for five families with predetermined needs, which includes those families having multiple students in the program and those with repeat participation. All awarding of funds is based on availability, need, family income and circumstances.

REACH of Haywood County
Received $3,000 to provide emergency shelter for 20 individuals and families at local motels for up to a period of 30 nights. These individuals affected by this funding are fleeing domestic violence, sexual assault or elder abuse.
